Any house can call itself selective. The only way to show it is to publish the numbers, including the ones that are unflattering.
There is nothing here yet, and that is the accurate state of things.
The house opens to independent authors in September 2026. The first reporting period closes six months after that, and the numbers will appear on this page whatever they say. If the first period is one enquiry and no books, this page will say one enquiry and no books.
We are publishing the commitment before we have the figures, because a promise made after the fact is worth nothing.
Enquiries to assessment. Anyone can send a short enquiry and it costs nothing. We read all of them. Only projects that could plausibly work are offered a paid assessment, so most projects end here, before anyone has paid us anything.
Assessment to published. Of the projects we assessed, how many we went on to publish. The assessment is a real piece of work and it is yours either way. If we decline after it, you keep the judgement and the fee bought you something.
There is a kind of publisher that will print anything for a fee and describes itself in language very close to ours. The usual way to prove you are not one is to take a share of the author's royalties, so that the house only earns if the book sells. We do not do that, and the reason is on the For authors page.
That leaves us owing you a different kind of proof. This is it. A press that publishes everyone cannot put these numbers on its website, because the honest version of them is a hundred per cent.
We will not restate the period, quietly change what counts as an enquiry, or drop a bad six months. Every closed period stays on this page permanently, including the ones we would rather not show.
If the rate ever climbs to a place we cannot defend, the honest response is to say so here rather than to stop publishing.
An enquiry is a message from an author about a specific book, sent to the submissions address. General questions and messages that are not about a manuscript are not counted.
An assessment is counted in the period it was paid for.
A published book is counted in the period it went on sale, which may be a later period than the assessment. That means the second rate lags, and in an early period it will look worse than it is.
Localisation is not counted here. It applies to books that are already published and there is no editorial gate, only a suitability check. If that changes, this page will say so.
