We keep this short, because we collect very little.

When you join, we keep your email address. You confirm it by clicking a link in an email we send you first, and nothing else reaches you until you have. So that we can show you asked to join, our email service also records when and from which IP address you signed up and confirmed.
We do not measure whether you open an email. Our email service does record which links in an email you click, against your address, and we look at that only to see which books readers are interested in. You agree to this when you join, as the note at the form says.
We use the address to send you the book, the letters of the first two weeks and then one email a week, and for nothing else. The legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time, with effect for the future, through the link at the bottom of every email.
Giving us your address is voluntary. Without it we cannot send the book or the emails.
If you use the enquiry form, we keep what you put in it, that is your name, your email address, the title of the book, whether it is published, an optional link and your message, together with the page you sent it from and the time and IP address of the submission. If you write to us by email, we keep your message and our reply. We use both to answer you and to prepare an offer. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, steps taken at your request before entering into a contract. Name, email address, title and message are needed to answer you, the link is optional.
Our host records each request in its server log. That is the address of the page, the time, your IP address, the response code and the page you came from. We do not run any analytics script in your browser, we set no cookies for measurement, and nothing is stored on your device. The logs are kept for a short period and are used to keep the site running and secure. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Reading room and enquiry form. Both go through MailerLite. For customers in Europe that is MailerLite Limited, 88 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, Ireland, which stores and sends on our behalf under a data processing agreement. The data is stored in data centres in the European Union. Where MailerLite’s company in the United States has access, MailerLite, Inc., the transfer rests on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which it is certified, and on standard contractual clauses.
Hosting. This site is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 101 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, United States. Netlify is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and the transfer also rests on the standard contractual clauses agreed with it.
Email. Mail to our addresses is held by Zoho Mail on its European service.
The typefaces are served from our own site. They are not loaded from Google Fonts or any other outside service, so no request goes anywhere else when you open a page.
We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it with advertisers. Ever.
Reading room addresses stay until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only the record that you consented and when you withdrew, for three years, so that we can show it if ever asked. The legal basis for that record is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR in being able to prove consent. Enquiries stay for as long as we are in contact and then for the period German commercial and tax law requires. Server logs are kept only briefly by our host.
Under GDPR you may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict its use, or take it elsewhere. You can withdraw consent at any time, with effect for the future. You can also complain to a supervisory authority, for us the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. Write to and we will act on it.
Your right to object. Where we rely on our legitimate interest, that is for the server logs and for the record of consent, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation, under Article 21 GDPR.
You can unsubscribe from any email with one click. The link is at the bottom of every one.
